Field Engineer

To support our growth, we are looking for a hands-on product development Field Engineer. At WindESCo you will be expected to jump into a wide variety of problem solving roles, innovate, demonstrate superiority of potential innovations through rigorous testing and validation, and execute by turning those innovative concepts into production systems. You will be expected to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with the team and with outside consultants, contractors, customers and suppliers.

Intellectual curiosity to explore, understand, and improve our systems and solutions is key to success at WindESCo. Critical for this role is a mindset focused on making continuous process improvements toward the goal of improved efficiency, repeatability and reliability. You should be results-driven and excel at breaking problems down into pieces and executing each of them while being mindful of the overall objective.

Job responsibilities

  • Install and troubleshoot prototype and demonstration systems on wind turbines.
  • Write installation and troubleshooting instructions.
  • Train installation technicians and coordinate on-site activities with wind plant and 3rdĀ  party installers.
  • Maintain safety training, safety program documentation and safe work practices.
  • Configure and test data acquisition and control systems on the bench.
  • Remotely monitor deployed systems and investigate system and sensor failures.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to perform root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Provide feedback to the software development team including describing bugs, collaborating to define new requirements, and conducting hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in STEM and at least 2-years hands on experience leading the installation and troubleshooting of data acquisition or controls systems in an industrial environment.
  • Prior experience working under an industrial health and safety program.
  • Experience safely working at heights, in confined spaces and using hand held power tools.
  • Experience documenting, assembling, diagnosing, and modifying AC and DC circuits (up to 240 VAC).
  • Knowledge of industrial serial communication systems and TCP/IP networks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsĀ 
  • Experience creating installation documentation, working with suppliers and customers, and training technicians.
  • Able to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to travel up to 50%.
  • Eligible to work in the US.

Preferred qualifications

The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:

  • Experience commissioning, maintaining, or enhancing wind turbines.
  • Working knowledge of wind energy and wind turbine fundamentals.
  • Fall protection and rescue training
  • Experience with data analysis in Python including Pandas and Jupyter Notebook.
  • Exposure to developing or modifying applications in C#.
  • Experience with industrial SCADA systems and databases.
